The development of transactions was also positive; however at a lower growth rate compared with retail current value sales, of 1%. The number of outlets continued to decline, by 1% in 2013. Therefore, in 2013 the relationship between the three key parameters was the same as in all other years of the review period. Fewer (but more successful) outlets achieved an increasing number of transactions, and the average spend also continued to increase, mainly due to price adjustments in line with the inflation rate and higher costs, but to some degree also due to consumers trading up to more expensive products.
