365 Days of Recipes: Unique Cookbook Offers Delicious Bites for a Great Cause

Daily Bread from My Kitchen to Yours: A Daybook of Some Favorite Recipes and Quotations, by Marie Dempsey Carter, is a true labor of love. Inspired by Marie’s French-Canadian mother, the cookbook spans an entire year, with daily recipes and quotations. A generous portion of the proceeds goes toward National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers, with Marie hoping to raise $100,000 in the fight to find a cure.

Richmond, VA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/05/2014 -- Over 15 years ago, Marie Carter’s beloved mother died of ovarian cancer.

It’s an all too-common tale. Ask the average person on the street, and they probably will have a similar story about a friend, teacher, daughter or brother who suffered through the ravages of cancer.

While searching for an outlet for her grief, Marie had a “light bulb” moment. Wanting to honor her mother and other loved ones who had struggled with the disease, Marie also sought a way to raise funds for cancer research. Suddenly, it all became clear. She decided to write a cookbook.

“Fifteen years later, it happened!” says Marie with a laugh. “It’s amazing how a busy legal career and raising four active children can interfere with other projects.”

In Daily Bread from My Kitchen to Yours: A Daybook of Some Favorite Recipes and Quotations, the author shares more than 365 of her most cherished recipes, along with a quotation for each day of the year. The quotations were chosen with her children in mind, as she wanted them to have a handy guide to life, with pearls of wisdom and scripture passages to provide guidance and amusing sayings to make them laugh.

Influenced by her French-Canadian heritage and Virginia lifestyle, Marie’s approach to cooking blends simple but deeply satisfying meals with warm hospitality. This unique cookbook will inspire you to fill your kitchen and table with great food, friends, conversation, and laughter. Above all, the cookbook is a tribute to her mother and a moving rumination on the healing power of a good meal.

Since its release, the book has earned glowing reviews from readers, as well as a five-star rating on Amazon.

Calling it “the cookbook you will wish you had written,” Personalization Nerd wrote: “Marie had me at the recipe for Pate Chinois (French Canadian Shepherd's Pie), a staple at my French-Canadian grandmother’s house every holiday when I was growing up. This exquisite gem of a book is filled with recipes that are deeply delicious and the true definition of comfort food.”

“What a charming cookbook,” says Margie Strumbu . “I love the well-written recipes that combine down home cooking with sophisticated dinner recipes. I also love that each day of the year there is an inspiring quote at the bottom of the page…this cookbook will stay out for quite a while as I peruse each recipe and each thoughtful quote. I can’t wait to entertain using this book.”

Susan Finn was equally impressed. “Daily Bread is a unique and very special cookbook. Marie Dempsey Carter offers delicious and uncomplicated recipes for each day of the year. You will also enjoy her daily thoughts associated with each recipe.”

Gertrude McLean noted that charitable element in her review. “This is truly the best cookbook written,” she said. “Each recipe is easy to understand and all the sayings are so thoughtful. You won't be disappointed with this book... With some of the proceeds of the book going to cancer research you know you are buying a product that you will love but will also help others who are sick.”

As the author explains, she has a lofty goal for her book.

“I’d like to raise $100,000 for cancer research over the course of the next two years,” she says. “When I finally published the book and heard the responses, I knew it was possible.

“Seeing my mother’s heritage reflected in the recipes, and reading through the quotations really hammers home how much love has gone into this book. I’m so glad I was able to complete it – not only for my family but also for anyone who has been touched by cancer. We truly need all the light and the happiness we can get.”
