£4.6billion of Unworn Clothing Items Are Sitting in Our Wardrobes

Harrogate, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/26/2016 -- According to an online poll conducted by CollectPlus an estimated £4.6 billion worth of unworn clothing items are sitting in British wardrobes. Working out at an average of £93 of unworn clothing per British person, the UK population as a whole currently own over 350 million items that have never been worn. CollectPlus are now urging people to give these unworn items to charity to enable better use for them and are offering five hundred free deliveries for parcel donations to their parent Oxfam.

Consider the carbon footprint

The clothing and textiles industry is now the 5th biggest contributor to the UK's carbon footprint according to the latest figures provided from WRAP. Throwing out equivalent to 7 tonnes of clothing every 10 minutes WRAP have now claimed that if we were to look after clothing items for an additional 9 months we could help sort this issue.

And, this doesn't even have to mean that you have to wear the same items for 9 months longer than you want to. There are other means and ways of solving this issue for example, you could have a go at altering and adjusting your clothing items to change them up and make them more current or even hold a 'clothes swap' night with your friends or colleagues where you can swap items with each other – revamping your wardrobe for free.

Remnant House is a company that frequently commentates on industry news and a spokesperson had this to say:

"It is shocking to see that Britain is hoarding so many unworn clothes, especially when it is so simple to alter items. For example, some of these unworn items could be unworn due to incorrect fit and this can be sorted by slight adjustments. This is why we offer a wide range of haberdashery and fabrics at affordable prices."
