A Signature Paul Evans Sculpture Featured at Bodnar's Auction

New Brunswick, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/13/2019 -- From a local Monmouth Beach Estate comes a beautiful and one-of-a-kind Paul Evans Sculptural front floating sideboard. This unique piece was made by Paul Evans in 1974 in his studio in New Hope, PA. As an American-born furniture designer, sculptor, and artist, Evans is famous for his noteworthy contributions to American furniture design, as well as to the American Craft Movement of the 1970s. Evans studied at several institutions including the Philadelphia Textile Institute in Philadelphia, Rochester Institute of Technology, School for American Craftsmen, and Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

In the 1950s, he began crafting copper chests and then sculpted beautiful steel-front cabinets. Years later, Evans worked for the furniture manufacturer, Directional Furniture, as a featured designer. While working for Directional Furniture, Evans introduced a series of furniture lines. He created Argente series, Sculptured and Painted Steel, Sculpted Bronze series, Pewter and Brass, Patchwork Copper, and the ever so popular Cityscape series.

Some of his pieces were often signed, and other custom items can be spotted with a signature and a date. His fine craftsmanship and technology anticipated today's limited-edition art furniture. After working with Directional Furniture, Evans developed a standard for creative manufacturing. He insisted that every piece of furniture is handmade, finished by hand, and maintain artist supervision at every step of the production process. Sadly, Paul Evans passed in 1987, but his vision lives on.

This piece, featured at Bodnar's Auction in NJ, contains a sculpted and painted steel front with prominent patchwork copper throughout the top and sides. Sitting on top is a single piece of black slate. The piece has different sculptural designs running throughout that make this piece completely different from the others that Evans made. Each one may look similar, but each is one of a kind. The base of the sculpture is dated 1974. It comes from a local Monmouth Beach estate and was purchased from the Paul Evans Studio in New Hope, PA in 1974. It has remained in the family ever since.

Bodnar's Auction Sales is proud and excited to bring this piece to the market for sale on March 28, 2019 at the NJ Convention and Expo Center at 97 Sunfield Ave, Edison, NJ. Bidding for the sculpture will be offered in-house, by phone, and through absentee bidding. Online bidding is also accepted through Auction Zip and Invaluable. A pre-auction estimate of $80,000.00- $120,000.00 has been set for this extremely rare piece with a starting price of $40,000.00. In order to settle an estate, the sculpture must be sold to the highest bidder. Similar pieces that have been sold for six figures can retail in a gallery for a value of a half a million dollars. The local auction in NJ is excited to see what it brings on sale day.
