A Star Smog Receives STAR Certification from State of California

Antioch, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/14/2018 -- A Star Smog in Antioch, CA has received STAR Certification from the State of California. This allows, A Star Smog, a test-only smog check station, to conduct smog checks for directed vehicles as well as standard smog checks, making A Star Smog able to conduct smog checks for any car, truck, RV, or other motor vehicle.

STAR Certification approval is done on a station-by-station basis, and a list of all STAR stations in the State of California can be found on the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) website. STAR program approval is done on a quarterly basis, and A Star Smog received certification on the completion of the first quarter of 2018.

The STAR program began in the California on June 1, 2013 as a result of AB 2289, state legislation approved in 2010 as part of an overhaul of automotive emissions control under the jurisdiction of the California BAR. Almost all vehicles of model year 1999 or older are required to go to a STAR certified smog station during the biennial smog check, and additionally, some percentage of model year 2000 and newer cars are required to go to a STAR station. Smog checks performed at a STAR station are the same as regular smog checks; the distinction of STAR indicates that the station has met the states stringent requirements for smog check quality.

By meeting STAR requirements, A Star Smog has met short and long-term measures for smog check quality. Short term measures include criteria of thoroughness of smog checks. Among the components of long term measures are how the same vehicles perform at other smog stations at the next smog check. The State uses statistical methods to make sure that smog shops are managing the quality their testing.

"This is a testament to the quality of our technicians. We want our customers to receive the highest possible level of service when they visit us – from the beginning to the end. I'm happy that we can do this, at the same time working in partnership the state, and also doing our part to make sure the air we breathe is clean." Said Ameer Kay, owner of A Star Smog.

Air quality has been steadily improving in quality since the 1970s as measured by smog indexes and ozone particulates. This is in part due to air quality improvements such as the smog program, energy generation, as well as technology improvements such as increasing miles-per-gallon requirements for cars, and the introduction of electric cars.
