A Temperature Hike Can Trigger Migraines

Phoenix, AZ -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/04/2014 -- Food, genetics, and various environmental factors are identified as some of the leading triggers of migraine. A study conducted in the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston by researchers of the Harvard School of Public Health Boston revealed that one of these environmental factors point to changes in weather or, more specifically, increase in temperature.

Lead researcher Dr. Kenneth Mukamal, also a migraine sufferer, pointed out the current statistics: 20% of American women and around 10% of American men suffer from migraine. Unfortunately, to this day, a decisive cure for migraine is not yet developed, and the only thing migraine sufferers can do is to manage it. It starts by recognizing their respective migraine triggers so they can go about minimizing, or altogether eliminating them.

Mukamal’s research specifically stated that every 9-degree Fahrenheit hike in temperature leads to a 7.5% increase in the number of patients complaining of severe headache or migraine. Generally, more people complain of migraine attacks during warmer days.

Sleep is also adversely affected when high temperatures induce migraine. This leads to sleep deprivation on top of the debilitating pain that migraine is associated with.

It becomes even more imperative, then, to maintain lower temperatures. During the summer, the usual methods to stay cool include having a working air conditioning system in their homes or offices, to stay hydrated and drinking cool beverages, and using cooling sprays, cooling gels and other tools and devices that provide a cooling effect. It has an extra large size, which guarantees more than the usual amount of coverage provided by other standard-sized cooling pillows. The gel also ensures even distribution of absorbed heat, diffusing it away from the body, and completely dispensing with the need to flip it every now and then. For maximum comfort, it follows the contours of the upper body, and the fabrics used are soft and non-toxic.

One of these tools is a cooling gel pillow. New Home Innovations has just released its unique cooling pillow, the PolarGel Pillow, which is designed with the latest cooling technology, primarily using cooling gel.

The PolarGel Pillow turns out to be especially effective for migraine sufferers, since it directly comes into contact with the head, neck and shoulders, providing relief for their throbbing headaches and comfort to promote a deeper and more restful sleep.

You may now order your PolarGel Pillow from Amazon.com.
