Phoenix, AZ -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/13/2016 -- About Jane Baker
Jane Baker is the author of the Memoir, Trading Places When Our Son Became a Daughter. In this important book, Jane Baker tells the story of supporting her adult child through gender transition while struggling to overcome deep personal anguish about it. Baker takes us on a journey from grief, through an arduous period of investigation, to understanding, meaning to eventually finding a light at the end of the tunnel. She is very proud of her courageous daughter. Living with her husband Ted in Bloomfield Hills Michigan, Jane now speaks and writes about the transgender journey, her goal is to help struggling parents, friends and extended families support their transgender loved ones. Her message is that family unity is a key element in this process to everyone, especially transgender people themselves. In early 2009, shortly before his 20th birthday, her son Steve told Jane he was a woman. He was making plans to become a daughter, and would soon be renamed Sarah. When Jane first learned her adult son planned to become a daughter, she felt like her child was heading for disaster and she desperately tried to stop the transition. As time progressed, her efforts to stop it led her to learn more about transgender people instead. She also became increasingly aware that her child was happier and more confident as a woman. Over the course of three years, Jane underwent a transition of her own: from being the mother of two adult sons to the mother of one son and one daughter. As more and more transgender people come out of the closet, parents and other loved ones may be looking for resources to help them cope. Baker first validates their grief. Then, through an arduous period of investigation, she educates those readers and guides them through to the light at the end of the tunnel.
