Anaheim, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/07/2014 -- The Adopt Our Soldier foundation and the Orange County Vietnamese American (OCVA) Lions are continuing their efforts to bring awareness and support to our veterans. At the end of July, Adopt Our Soldier is presenting a weekend of exciting events.** On Friday, July 25, the organization hosts a dinner reception at Bleu XO Restaurant in Westminster. On Sunday morning, July 27, there will be a tennis tournament at The Tennis Club in Newport Beach. Proceeds from the events will be earmarked to help veterans with necessities such as food, clothing, and medical and dental services.
Studies done by the VA have revealed that as many as one in five of our homeless population has served in the U.S. military. There are currently over 22 million veterans in the U.S. One million more service members will be reentering civilian life over the next five years. A portion of these veterans will inevitably “slip through the cracks” and face issues such as unemployment, homelessness, substance abuse, mental disorders such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and depression.
In 2013, Adopt Our Soldier and the OCVA Lions served a free Veterans Day lunch to 200 veterans. They also distributed blankets and warm clothing and donated close to $5,000 to Veterans First, an agency that provides services to OC homeless and at-risk veterans. On Thanksgivings Day 2013, the group presented a check for $2,500 to Frank Garcia of “We Give Thanks”, an annual event which provides a Thanksgiving Day meal for the homeless and less fortunate, including many veterans.
Dr. Chuck Le, founder of Adopt our Soldier is the owner of 7 Day Dental clinics in Orange County. He has donated his time and skills to provide free dental work to veterans, and he is calling on his fellow dentists to do likewise. Dental work can be performed at the dentist’s own office or at the Lestonnac Free Clinic’s Orange and Compton locations.
For this month’s events, Adopt Our Soldier is seeking sponsors and items for a silent auction, live auction and raffle. In addition, cash contributions, gift certificates and food and beverages for tournament participants will be greatly appreciated. Contributions and requests for event tickets should include your full name and address, and can be sent to:
