Allstar Enviro Safety Announces a New Site - Safetyclasses.ca

Calgary, AB -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/19/2014 -- Allstar Enviro Safety is proud to announce the release of its new website: safetyclasses.ca. This new site features the H2S Alive program certified through Enform – H2S Alive Edition 7.

The petroleum industry saw the need to protect the public and the environment from H2S releases after a number of blowouts in the late 1970s and early 1980s and developed the H2S Alive program.

An infamous incident was in central Alberta in 1982, where a company was drilling a sour gas well which blew up. The same company had experienced a serious blowout in the same gas field five years earlier. The regulatory and public outcry was intense. Ironically, the odor of H2S rotten eggs could be smelled as far away as Winnipeg, nearly 1500 kilometers away.

This incident spawned a generation of new oil and gas safety regulations. The oil and gas industry designated dangerous drilling areas and labelled them as potentially hazardous wells. Elaborate safety precautions at the well where mandated, along with a need for extensive and continuing education for workers at these wells.

As a result, the H2S Alive course was created. Recently, edition 7 has arrived. It is a 6-8 hour training program takes place in a classroom, and is designed to provide the skills and knowledge employees require to conduct a hazard assessment and control the risks in a hydrogen sulphide gas environment. A temporary ticket is provided upon successful completion of the theory, group scenarios and physical skills. A closed book exam requires a 70% pass mark. A permanent ticket is sent shortly after the program. This ticket is valid for 3 years.

This class is presented by Allstar Enviro Safety in Calgary Alberta. They have a video on H2S Alive here.
