Altrincham Based Company, Computer Support Offers "Meet the Developer" Workshop to Schools

 

Manchester, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/25/2015 -- Computer Support Services based in Broadheath, Altrincham has offered schools in Greater Manchester an opportunity to take advantage of a free workshop allowing pupils to engage with members of their software development team.

The workshop offers pupils an insight as to how programs are coded. Demonstrating how the development team work together to complete a project. Depending on the age group, pupils are then given an opportunity to use the companies "Stratus Logistics" program which allows energy companies to track personnel and cargo moving to offshore installations throughout the world.

Younger pupils will use "Umarkit" an asset tagging system. Equipment serial numbers and descriptions are entered into the system along with a photograph and item value. Both systems are cloud based so can be accessed from any internet enabled PC, tablet or smartphone. Computer Support has set up sandboxes in their data centre to allow teaching staff to use the programs as part of their ICT lessons in the next academic year, at no cost to the schools.

The workshop aim is to demonstrate how developers write code, work in conjunction with other team members to deliver a program to the customer, showing a working world experience.

James Black, managing director for Computer Support Services, said: "Quite a number of our software projects are overseas based, we are delighted to be in a position now to offer our expertise to local schools. We have training instances of Stratus Logistics & Umarkit available on our servers these can be used by schools in their ICT lessons."

The company provides traditional computer support primarily in Greater Manchester, however they have clients globally, the furthest being the Falkland Islands. They support the Falkland Conservation Society hardware and software needs, additionally they have also written a complex databases to manage penguin monitoring on the island.
