West Palm Beach, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/02/2016 -- Dog sports and trends are on the rise and the 2016 South Florida Pet Expo is showing their love for supporting active pets by giving pet-lovers the opportunity to see and participate in Lure Coursing. The Expo is taking place on Saturday, March 19 - 20 at the South Florida Expo Center from 10am until 6pm. The event has expanded this year from a one-day event to 2 big days!

The still relatively unknown sport of Lure Chasing, also known as Lure Coursing, is a fast-paced, fun chase sport. Dogs run after a "bunny" lure (usually a white plastic bag) that is attached to a line that is controlled by a machine and a lure operator. The machine runs the line at the speed determined by the lure operator (and the dogs) and the dogs chase the lure. While this is a sport for dogs with a high prey drive, it is also for any pet, even cats from time to time.

"There are lots of activities and dog sports out there and it's no secret that dogs often have a little too much energy," says Meghan Wolfgram of Swift Paws, "Lure chasing is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to tire your pup out both mentally and physically."

Along with being able to watch a few demonstrations of the sport, pet parents will be invited to allow their pups to try out the course for themselves for a small fee, so that they have the opportunity to decide if their pets could benefit from the exercise and excitement of Lure Chasing.

The Lure Course is also open for pets from the Petfinder.com Mega Adoption Area to run for free. Swift Paws generously donates to causes each year and sees the Lure Chase as a great way to showcase some of the pets who are looking for forever homes at the event.

The South Florida Pet Expo will also feature more than 100 exhibitors, live entertainment and demonstrations, Low-cost immunizations and discounted microchipping will be available from Animal Aid, Inc. and free nail trims will also be available.

Admission to the 2016 South Florida Pet Expo is free. This indoor and air-conditioned event is expected to attract more than 15,000 attendees along with their furry, feathered and reptilian pals who are looking to enjoy a new and one-of-a-kind experience where all pets can enjoy a fun day out with their pet parent(s). All well-behaved pets are welcome, as long as they're on a fixed lead (or in a carrier) and have proof of age-appropriate rabies vaccines.
