Anti-Neurofibromatosis Revival Campaign Launched; "From My Loved Ones to Yours"

Rochester, MN -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/05/2016 -- After going through his mother's battle with breast cancer and later with brain metastasis, Mohamed A. Elsherif made his mission to find a cure for neurofibromatosis to restore familes and restore hopes. To raise support and funds for his cause, Elsherif has set up the a crowdfunding campaign for research that is useful in the fight against Neurofibromatosis, A genetic form of nerve tumors (benign and malignant). Through the campaign, on the popular crowdfunding platform, GoFundMe Elsherif aims to raise at least $250,000 by Wed, March 1st, 2017.

The funds raised through the crowdfunding campaign will largely be used to support Neurofibromatosis's research endeavors in deciphering unidentified culprit genes. A small portion of the donations will be alloted to support education and training programs for the new generations of neurosurgeons at the Mayo Clinic.

It was in the year 2002 when Elsherif's mother first began her battle with breast cancer. Four years later, she was suffering from seizures due to brain metastasis. Her battle with these dishabilitating diseases had a large impact on the lives of the entire family, "I will never forget the horror of these experiences, the devastation that became a regular part of her life, something that she was forced to face head on constantly. It set me on a new path in life, imbuing me with a mission that drives me forward to this every day." – Elsherif said of his experience during his mother's fight with cancer.

Today, Elsherif is conducting a research that focuses on investigating a common genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue anywhere in nervous system known as "Neurofibromatosis." Unfortunately, when It causes large tumors or tumors that press on a nerve, surgery can only ease symptoms and often fails or leaves patient with variable degrees of paralysis. Elsherif said: "To date, there is neither a preventive nor curative method for this group of nerve tumors. The Increasing failure rates of cancer chemotherapies prompt us to move and find a solution."

He is seeking donations that will help him support his research fund that will pave the way towards finding a cure for this hereditary form of nerve cancer.
