Apple to Manufacture iPhone SE Models in India Following Stagnant Smartphone Sales Growth in China

To boost Apple’s share in India and to make up the slowing iPhone sales growth in Asia’s other massive market – China, Apple is planning to manufacture iPhone SE models in India.

Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/21/2017 -- India is in possession of great potential for smartphone handsets considering it having the second largest population in the world. Knowing that the sale for its smartphone in Asia's other massive market like China has become stagnant, Apple Inc has decided to switch its focus from China to India in order to boost market share in the world's fastest growing major mobile market. In the coming month, Apple Inc will start to assemble its lower-priced iPhone SE models at a contract manufacturer's plant in the southern Indian technology hub of Bengaluru.

The iPhone SE (iPhone Special Edition) was unveiled on March 21, 2016 at Apple's Cupertino headquarters and was released on March 31, 2016. As a successor to iPhone 5S, iPhone SE possesses a screen of 4-inch size, and is largely identical to 5S in design. Among various iPhone models available on the market including the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE is charged at the lowest price. However, in India, the price of iPhone SE is not the lowest one when compared with that of many smartphones (Samsung brand, Xiaomi brand, Vivo brand, etc.). Those smartphones are sold below 15,000 rupees ($225) while the entry-level iPhone SE are priced at 28,433 rupees ($424) in India.

According to a reliable source, Apple's Taiwanese manufacturing partner Wistron Corp is setting up a plant in Bengaluru to focus solely on assembling iPhones. By assembling iPhones in India, Apple aims not only to make up the stagnant iPhone sales in China, but to boost its share in the world's fastest growing major mobile market, where is dominated by handsets far cheaper than Apple's iPhones. To recover share in India's mobile market, Apple has to make a compromise in iPhone pricing. To lower price for iPhone SE, Apple has been seeking to set up local production and has been in talks with the Indian federal government regarding issues such as tax concessions.

The iPhone SE is highly cost effective, and many people will find the 4-inch size screen gadget handy. Compared with iPhone 5S and iPhone 6S, iPhone SE has been greatly improved in hardware updates including an updated processor, a rear camera, and support for iOS 9 software features, etc. People in India might stand a good chance to buy iPhone SE at a preferential price once tax concessions policy is approved by the Indian federal government.

Those who have recently purchased iPhone SE could utilize an iPhone data transfer program to transfer data from an old iPhone to a new one, such as to transfer text messages between two iPhones, transfer photos/music files/contacts from old iPhones to new iPhones, etc.
