Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/04/2016 -- Apple officially sent out an email to app developers, notifying them of two methods of well organizing apps in the App Store in order to make it easier for people to find great apps that suit different needs. For one thing, Apple will remove problematic apps that have not been updated for compatibility with recent versions of iOS and MacOS. For the other, Apple will be strict with the naming of apps, encouraging a shorter app name of no longer than 50 characters. Apple will implement these two methods from the developer community starting September 7, 2016 when Apple is expected to announce iPhone 7, a new version of Apple Watch (second-generation Apple Watch), and iOS 10.

According to Apple, those apps that "no longer function as intended" and fail to meet the latest review guidelines will be removed from the App Store. Those apps left to collect dust in the App Store will not be removed immediately. Instead, Apple will notify app developers that changes must be made within 30 days. Changes not being made or changes failing to meet the standard, those apps will be removed completely. To the contrary, apps that instantly crash when opened will be removed immediately as the email highlights that "quality is extremely important to us".

In addition to removing apps of low quality from the App Store, Apple also emphasized the need of shortening the length of app name as lengthy names fail to displayed fully in the App Store and provide no user value. The names of new apps submitted to the App Store must be within 50 characters in length. As people are using search method to discover and download apps from the App Store, some app makers have "used extremely long app names which include descriptions and terms not directly related to their app" to rank higher in search queries. To some extent, the new app naming rule will effectively prevent app developers from playing with App Store search.

According to Apple, there are right now over 2 million apps in the App Store. In order to make room for the future mobile apps, it is time to get rid of abandoned and problematic apps from the App Store.

Please take note that the app cleansing targets software that has not been updated in years. Therefore it is unlikely that the everyday apps on iPhone's home screen will suffer from the action.
