Bahrain, Bulgaria and Israel Consumer Electronics Report Q2 2016; New Report Launched

Market Research Reports, Inc. has announced the addition of “Bahrain, Bulgaria and Israel Consumer Electronics Report Q2 2016” research report to their website

Lewes, DE -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/23/2016 -- A combination of market saturation and economic uncertainty means the growth prospects for consumer electronics device spending growth in Bahrain are limited over 2016-2020. It will however continue to be a lucrative market for vendors with high incomes reflected in premium device bias, high prices and wide margins. Our forecast envisages growth in USD50,000+ annual income households will support some growth at the premium end of the market, but overall saturation in most device categories mean there is little low-hanging fruit for vendors. Under our core scenario, we envisage total device spending will grow at a CAGR of 1.5% over 2016-2020, but we caution that risks are weighted to the downside, with a sustained low in the oil price the most significant risk, but political unrest could also derail our core scenario.

Latest Updates & Industry Developments

- Computer Sales: The market will increase from USD150mn in 2016 to USD165mn in 2019, at a CAGR of 2.5%. An ageing desktop and notebook stock and deferred purchases from 2015 and 2016 are behind our expectation that computer sales will register the strongest growth once economic conditions become more supportive.

- AV Sales: The market will increase from USD125mn in 2016 to USD130mn in 2019, at a CAGR of 1.0%. Smart and Ultra-HD TV set upgrades will put the market on a stronger trajectory compared to recent years, but digital camera volumes will not recover after cannibalisation by smartphone proliferation.

- Handset Sales: We forecast a growth from USD267mn in 2016 to USD279mn in 2019, at a CAGR of 1.1%. Saturated smartphone market means growth will be far below the rates in the initial boom phase, but premium bias and short replacement cycles will nonetheless mean vendors can benefit.

We have left our core outlook unchanged for the Bulgarian consumer electronics market in our Q2 2016 report update. Lev depreciation against the US dollar hit consumer electronics demand in Bulgaria hard in 2015 through the erosion of household purchasing power and therefore reduce the affordability of imported hardware. We expect a recovery in 2016, albeit a limited one with growth of 1.6% forecast for the market as a whole, but with all three segments returning to growth. There will however be stronger growth over the medium term as economic conditions become more favourable, which will have a considerable impact on PC and AV sales that were hit hardest by lev depreciation. Low penetration across most device categories will allow vendors to tap into the first-time buyer and upgrade/replacement markets as incomes rise and confidence returns among households. Meanwhile, in the handset segment the growth trend will be determined to a greater extent by product adoption trends. As the smartphone market becomes more saturated, with first-time buyers accounting for a smaller share of annual sales, the overall market growth rate will slow.

Latest Updates & Industry Developments

- Computer Sales: USD350mn in 2016 to USD431mn in 2020, a CAGR of 4.3%. After a steep decline in 2015 we expect spending to recover 2016-2020, with underlying demand growth from low penetration rate and rising incomes boosted by deferred purchases from 2015.

- AV Sales: USD171mn in 2016 to USD178mn in 2020, a CAGR of 0.9%. While the AV segment is forecast to recover 2016-2020, we expect it to be the underperforming segment as TV set price erosion and digital camera volume cannibalisation act as drags on growth.

- Handset Sales: USD400mn in 2016 to USD475mn in 2020, CAGR of 4.1%. Increased saturation of smartphone market will result in growth deceleration as compared to 2011-2014, but growth opportunities remain and potential for increase in premium device sales in the later years of the forecast period.

After a contraction in consumer electronics device spending in 2015 when negative product trends, an economic slowdown and shekel depreciation all contributed to lower spending, we anticipate a modest recovery from 2016. The market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 3.5% over 2016-2020 to USD3.3bn in 2020, with all three segments expected to return to growth from 2016. It is the computer segment that we expect to outperform over the medium term due to deferred purchases from 2015, low penetration of personal devices and strong income growth for higher earners in Israel envisaged by our country risk team. Meanwhile, AV spending will benefit from a more positive product cycle, with smart and Ultra-HD TV set upgrades countering price pressures evident in recent years - but the handset segment, which has outperformed since the launch of the iPhone, is expected to decelerate as a result of a depleted pool of potential first-time buyers.

Latest Updates & Industry Developments

- Computer Hardware Sales: USD1.0bn in 2016 to USD1.2bn in 2020, corresponding to a CAGR of 4.6% in US dollar terms. Overall, market growth will be subdued in volume terms, but our income analysis points to a significant opportunity at the premium end of the retail PC market.

- AV Sales: USD527mn in 2016 to USD603mn in 2020, at a CAGR of 3.4%. AV replacement spending contracted in 2015 in an environment of depreciation but performance will strengthen over medium term due to appreciation and upgrade to smart and Ultra-HD TV sets.

- Handset Sales: USD1.3bn in 2016 to USD1.5bn in 2020, a CAGR of 2.5%. The handset segment will grow much slower than prior to 2015 due to smartphone market saturation, but premium focused vendors could benefit from high-income earnings growth outperformance 2016-2020.
