Richmond, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/13/2014 -- On April 8, 2014 Microsoft will no longer be offering extended support for Windows XP. Microsoft has issued this warning: “Windows XP is two generations behind Microsoft's current product technology and, in the near future, will be three full generations behind. Combined with the approaching end of extended support for Windows XP SP3, many customers are placing themselves at risk if they continue to use Windows XP. “
At Matrix Connectivity Solutions, we get it that businesses may think that Windows XP still works well enough for their needs whether it is supported or not by Microsoft but that is likely a mirage.

A recent study found that for, “five-year-old PCs running Windows XP, user productivity costs per PC per year nearly doubled from $177 in year two to $324 in year five, while IT labor costs per PC per year also jumped from $451 in year two to $766 in year five.” That is significant.
It is easy to project user productivity costs will rise as downtimes increases with more help desk queries, more reboots and major security jeopardy by running unsupported software with no new security updates. The increasing indirect costs are more difficult to predict precisely but increased IT labour costs and software compatibility issues are virtually inevitable.
Matrix Connextivity Solutions cautions that utilizing the older unsupported Windows XP rather than the newer supported software will in all probability be more expensive in the long run than making the upgrade and these costs will only spiral up in the future.
Lavji added “Businesses must be ultra-conscious of the security risks of continuing to run Windows XP. They also must carefully consider the rising direct and just as importantly the indirect costs that continuing to run Windows XP will expose them too.
The upgrade will have to happen, it is better to do it now than live with the security worry and wasting money on ever increasing IT Support.”
