Beximco Communications 'Akash': A Ray of Hope in DTH Service Domain

Powered by Bangabandhu Satellite (BS-1), Akash aims at making strides in the television connections sector

New South Wales, Australia -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/20/2019 -- Beximco Communications Ltd. (BCL) launched 'Akash', a Direct-To-Home satellite service provider powered by Bangabandhu Satellite (BS-1), a project that demarcates the national pride of Bangladesh. The sister company of Beximco Group has introduced this new project with the aim of improving the entertainment and awareness quotient across the country. Born from a project evaluated at approximately Tk 2,770 crore, BS-1 helped Bangladesh register its name in the list of nations who have sent satellite into orbit.

With mutual agreement between BCL and Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL) regarding the use of BS-1, Akash will mark the beginning of BS-1's commercial services. Initially, Akash has begun operations with 115 satellite television connections to offer, out of which 20 are of High Definition quality. Factoring in the association with BS-1, it is expected that the services offered by Akash are going to be technologically advanced, meeting the quality and reliability standards across the country.

Looking at the bigger picture, the beginning of DTH services in Bangladesh points towards the country's pace of technological development. Ensuring optimum use of an asset such as BS-1, Salman F Rahman's Beximco Communications has potentially laid the foundation for an improved entertainment and awareness quotient. Salman F Rahman is the vice chairman of the company and a parliamentarian. Akin to this, it will be rather inspirational to see more providers surface in the near future that collectively help in making DTH services accessible to every urban and rural corner of Bangladesh.

Provided that Akash is able to meet the customer expectations, the Beximco communications project could focus on the absence of authentic DTH service in Bangladesh. However, customer response in the upcoming months is going to determine the impact of Akash on the aforementioned absence as well as on the speculated expansion plans of Beximco Communications Ltd. The initial offering of Akash services has been initiated in the districts of Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
