Unfortunately, these days many young people are finding it difficult to meet the high demands of tuition. This is where the Columbia County Foundation for Children steps in.

Creating opportunities for children is what the Columbia County Foundation for Children does best. Last month, they awarded 17 scholarships to 17 bright and driven youth of Columbia County. Awards were for the 2014-2015 academic year and totaled over $20,000 dollars. It is the sincerest hope of the CCFFC that these scholarships help relieve the financial burdens many of them face.

The Barbara C. Beazley Memorial Scholarship Program is sponsored by The Columbia County Foundation for Children and is a tribute to Barbara Beazley’s lifelong commitment to helping children in Columbia County.

Awards are allocated based on academic history, financial need, career aspirations, recommendation letters, and interview. Applicants may apply up to age 22 and must be currently enrolled or intending to enroll in an academic or technical training program beyond high school. Of the seventeen winners this year, one attends Belmont University. One attends Gwinnett College. One attends Georgia Institute of Technology. Two attend Georgia Regents University. Four attend Georgia Southern University. One attends Gwinnett Technical College. Two attend Mercer University. Four attend the University of Georgia and one attends the University of West Georgia.

For more than 20 years The Columbia County Foundation for Children has strived to help disadvantaged children and youth in Columbia County by providing services such as scholarships, food, clothing, educational support and recreational activities. Other CCFCC projects include the Helping Hands Thrift Store, a Christmas gift program for children, and financial assistance for summer school and camps.

Thanks to the assistance and support of many generous donors and volunteers, the CCFCC has been able to grow and thrive within the community it serves.
