BUSH & GERTS Pianos Honored as a National Treasure for Decades, Proudly Collected by the White House

Bush, John Gerts, and Wm. L. That is not all, the White House National Treasures collection has a furniture collection, the most prominent of which is the President-Hayes-Desk, a double pedestal partners' desk, which is usually known as the "Resolute desk", the name comes from the material the desk was made from, the oak timbers of the British ship H.M.S. Resolute. This historic piece of furniture was a gift to President Rutherford B. Hayes from Queen Victoria in 1880. The furniture section holds some other gifts that were presented to different U.S. presidents.

Other sections include the dinner service section and the paintings section which holds pieces such as the Rocky Mountain Landscape painted by Albert Bierstadt, who created the pieces in 1870. According to history, Bierstadt had not seen the Rockies for seven years, and he worked from studies made in 1863.
