Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet Joins Ballet Academy East in a New Collaborative Choreographic Exchange Program

Carlisle, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/01/2018 -- Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) of Carlisle, PA, is pleased to announce it will be joining the illustrious Ballet Academy East of New York City (BAE) in a new collaborative exchange program for aspiring choreographers. In this program, student choreographers from both CPYB and BAE will travel to each other's respective schools to restage an original and newly created piece of work. Both CPYB and BAE hope that participating students will gain a better understanding of choreography, while also further developing their personal growth.

Choreographic Workshops

Students from each school who wish to partake in the new collaborative exchange program submitted a detailed proposal that outlines their vision for a new ballet, including the music, type of dance, how many dancers are involved, along with other additional information. After nine hours of choreographic composition, a handful of students will move forward in a vigorous rehearsal process creating their own original work on dancers in their respective schools to perform. Spearheading the choreographic initiatives for both CPYB and BAE, Director of Artistic Programming at CPYB, Alan Hineline, truly believes the student choreographic workshops provide students with an invaluable experience that not only enriches their dancing, but matures them as artists.

Student Exchange Program

Out of the 13 students who participated at CPYB, and the nine students that submitted work at BAE, one person from each school will be selected to stage their new choreographic composition on the other's school's students. Artistic directors from BAE and CPYB are beyond excited to provide their students with this exchange program as it will give them a greater sense of what it's like to have a career in choreography.

Public in-studio performances of the new works created by CPYB students are set to take place on January 27, 2018, at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet Warehouse Studios. There will also be a selected amount of student works performed on June 10, 2018, at the Ailey Studios in NYC and the Whitaker Center stage located in Harrisburg, PA. The Whitaker stage performances are part of CPYB's annual June Series production.
