Clearwater, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/27/2014 -- No one likes slaving over a worn floor, trying to make it presentable again. Sometimes, renovation is the best choice.

“When it comes to choosing easy-to-care-for flooring, you do have a number of choices that range from ceramic tiling to vinyl to rubber or reclaimed wood. However, if you are looking for the right kind of durability for your lifestyle, then you might want to check out duraceramic flooring,” suggested Dean Dupre, owner of Champion Tile and Marble in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Duraceramic is a limestone-based tile that is much less expensive and much more resilient than regular ceramic tile. It is also considered easier to clean and maintain, an important consideration in today’s hectic world.

“In fact, this particular flooring will last much longer than you may expect, provided it is cleaned in the proper manner. If you plan to install it yourself, remember to thoroughly read the instructions, as they will affect how the floor goes down. These tiles take time to settle into place,” Dupre added.

Duraceramic installation can happen smoothly when you follow a few simple tips. Keep all traffic off it for the first 24 hours. On the second day, allow only light traffic. On the fifth, furniture may be moved back into the room. If care is taken when laying this type of flooring, the finished product can withstand just about anything.

Wait a few more days before cleaning the tile for the first time. Then, use a no-rinse cleaner specifically formulated for this type of flooring. “Do not use harsh cleaning chemicals,” advised Dupre, “and only use a soft mop to avoid scratching the surface. Along the same lines, keep dirt and debris off the floor to reduce the chances that it may scratch.”

Limestone does get slippery when wet, so when mopping, remember to remove excess water to reduce the chance of falls and of warping the tiles. If the floor is properly maintained and cleaned, a homeowner can enjoy the warmth and the comfortable feel of the floor on the feet for years to come.
