New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/08/2016 -- Cherrystone Philatelic Auctioneers recently released details of its June 7-8 round of auctioned lots, including a variety of stamps from across the history of the United States, as well as from all over the world. Altogether, 1,653 lots were sold at the event, which took place in the auction house's West 57th Street location.

The collection included a number of memorable pieces, including a June 8, 1884 incoming Austrian 2k stationary card sent from Graz to Cap Haitien and returned to Graz with an added 1881 1c vermillion, 2c dark violet, and 3c bister olive, along with other valuable details. The piece commanded a final price of $14,000.

The auction drew an international audience, both at the site and through the online bidding technology at CherrystoneLIVE, which allows anyone with Internet access who has registered with the company to participate in the auction. Alongside the 1884 Haitian was a 1925 Russian stamp that commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. It was an extremely rare iteration of the item, with a "CCCP" missing from the top of the stamp. The final bid on this item was $9,000.

There were also a number of other stamps from across the globe that drew attention, including a complete 1894 Chinese Dowager 1c-24c, a complete 1962 Mei Lan-fang set, and an 1897 Chinese 4c on 3c. Stamps from other nations included a 1910 Iranian "Service" set of stamps, 2k and 4k; an 1852 Italian rose 1sc; and British Commonwealth Canada Air Post Special Delivery stamps from 1942, both 16c and 17c.

Domestic stamps were also featured in the June 7-8 auction. A U.S. 1857-61 90c blue, black cancel was delivered to a buyer with the successful bid of $2,600. Another collector secured a rare 1861 10c dark green, unused with a 2001 PSE certificate. An 1861 5c red brown also sold at the auction.

Another notable domestic item that sold at the event was an 1874 2c green and black with an inverted center. This unusual item was sold for $7,500. It is thought by some collectors to be the only fault-free example of this rarity in existence.
