Santa Monica, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/11/2016 -- Statistics show that 55 percent of college graduates are unemployed or underemployed. At least half of graduates are being passed over for job opportunities because of a lack of work experience.

It is with these statistics in mind that City Internships is announcing their Student Ambassador Initiative for college students. City Internships provides immersive career training programs for college students and recent graduates that are specifically designed to expand their horizons and get them job-ready. The initiative helps students to develop entrepreneurial skills and self-starting qualities that stand out to employers and gives them the opportunity to earn a fully-funded place on the in-demand Global Internship Program.

Alex Townley, a representative of City Internships, stated "Companies prefer graduates who have significant work experience because it means that they have already developed the necessary skills to do well in the workplace. Twenty-three percent of graduate vacancies go unfilled because employers cannot find graduates with the right skill set. Our Student Ambassador Initiative is working to change that. We give college students who love meeting new people the opportunity to earn some income referring students to the City Internships Global Internship Program. It will not only help them to build their resume, but it will also give them a chance to develop crucial entrepreneurial skills that are recognized and appreciated by hiring companies."

Townley goes on to say, "The ideal candidate for the initiative will be outgoing and people-oriented. In addition, they should be hardworking self-starters who have the ability to manage their responsibilities alongside a busy class schedule. These are the entrepreneurial skills that companies are looking for when they consider hiring college graduates, and we believe that there is no better place for college students to develop them than our Student Ambassador Initiative."

"The goal of initiative is to get students involved in showing their peers the benefits that our Global Internship Program provide. Post-graduation employment statistics are at an all-time low, but we have an opportunity to change that by helping college students develop the skills they need to thrive in the current job market. By joining forces with City Internships, Student Ambassadors can feel good about the fact that they are improving their own lives while giving other students the opportunity to better theirs as well."
