Telford, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/26/2016 -- Britain's key car makers are hurriedly making contingency plans to ensure there is no disruption to supply amidst the current UK steel crisis. The future of Tata Steel, one of the UK's largest producers is hanging in the balance; leaving a gaping hole in the supply chain should no one be found for a buyout.

According to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, UK car production is close to exceeding a record high some 40 years ago. In the first quarter of the year, 443,581 cars were made in Britain, an increase on the previous year of 10.3%.

However, the trade body has issued warnings that if the Tata steel buyout collapses, the impact on UK production will be felt far and wide, particularly within car manufacture, where figures could plummet should the worst scenario come to pass.
