County-Clerks.com Now Running a Contest in Search of the Best Genealogy Website

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/15/2014 -- According to a recent study, more than two-thirds of everyday consumers are in search of their family history, and thanks to a new contest being put on by County-Clerks.com, those in search of the best genealogy website will know exactly where to get the information they need.

“Help us decide who has the best genealogy site on the Web,” said a company spokesman for County-Clerks.com, a directory that has records and or contact information for every county clerk's office in the United States.

The spokesman explained that with the contest, the entry with the most votes (entry in first position) by 12 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, Sept. 30, will be rewarded with a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

The second place (site in second position) will receive a $25 Amazon gift card.

County-Clerks.com, which has records and or contact information for more than 3,000 county clerks offices across America, is an incredible resource, according to the spokesman, for genealogists looking for physical documents for their family records search.

As for the contest, the spokesman pointed out, that there are five official rules.

Rule No. 1: Participants can vote for more than one site at a time, which allows them to help their friends out; Rule No. 2: Participants can share the contest page and have people vote on it.

“Your best bet for sharing is linking to this site from your website, Facebook and Twitter,” the spokesman said.

Rule No. 3: Votes must take place via County-Clerks.com, not on Ranker.com; Rule No. 4: Participants cannot vote for their own site more than once a day; Rule No. 5: Any presumed cheating will be disqualified.

“Let’s make this a fair game,” the spokesman stressed.

The genealogy contest could prove to have perfect timing.

According to a recent study published in Bloomberg Businessweek: Genealogy ranks second only to porn as the most searched topic online.

In addition, according to a January report by market research firm Global Industry Analysts, an estimated 84 million people around the world spend anywhere from $1,000 to $18,000 a year in search of their ancestors.

“We originally created County-Clerks.com as a resource for genealogists and family records researchers,” the spokesman noted, before adding, “I visited Salt Lake City this winter and spent some time researching my own family at the LDS family records hall. I was hooked. I decided when I got home I was going to continue doing my research and put together my own family tree. I realized that if I needed physical documents, I would need to contact the county clerk where my family member lived. Started digging up county clerk contact details, and realized that there weren’t any other sites with all of the data in one place. I took the time to put this site together to save myself hours and hours of Googling for the contact info of each county clerk.”
