Dickey's Barbecue CEO Roland Dickey, Jr. Speaks out Regarding WHO Red Meat Cancer Controversy

Roland Dickey, Jr. is aiming to educate people regarding the World Health Organization’s findings, which suggest ‘low and slow’ smoked BBQ like Dickey’s is the healthiest way to cook.

Dallas, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/13/2015 -- The World Health Organization (WHO) issues a statement recently announcing that red meat could be reclassified as a carcinogen, following the completion of a study by twenty two scientists at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). While this caused widespread panic and indeed outrage, many failed to look at the details. CEO Roland Dickey, Jr. of Dickey's Barbecue Pit, which provides high quality Texas style barbecue, has read the research and is now pointing out that the devil is in the details.

The study suggests that cancer risk increases thanks to commercial processing and cooking at high temperatures, which increases burning and therefore carbon consumption. Roland Dickey, Jr. has stated that Dickey's Barbecue Pit smokes meats 'low and slow' at just 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Processed meats are dangerous because of the nitrates used, and the sausage at Dickey's Barbecue- the only processed meat on their menu- uses no nitrates. The time honored Texan tradition has therefore been found to be one of the healthiest ways to cook red meat.

Red meat itself is nutrient dense, with iron, zinc, omega-3 and omega-6, together with an impressive amino acid profile, making it a delicious way to get much needed nutrients.

In a statement, Roland Dickey, Jr. was quick to encourage individuals to enjoy these classically prepared menus, "With respect to the findings of the 22 scientists in Lyon, France, myself and millions of other Americans will continue to enjoy great barbecue. That's because we understand the difference between salting and smoking in a kitchen and commercial processing throwing out huge volumes at high speeds from plants. If anything, this is great news for Dickey's, as it encourages people to enjoy red meat in the traditional Texan way."
