Discovery Learning has created a gym instructor course scholarship for secondary schools and further education colleges in England and Wales, helping select students kick start a career.

Now everyone has one, and university is more expensive than ever, people are once again looking to vocational training and practical jobs. Discovery Learning want to encourage the new generation of gym instructors, and has launched a gym instructor course scholarship program aimed at secondary schools and further education colleges in England and Wales.
The new scholarship program will allow a school or college on the scheme to submit one pupil for each academic year to receive a free level 2 gym instructor course from Discovery Learning. There are no prior qualifications required, but the student must be over the age of sixteen and be able to read, write and use a computer.
The level 2 gym instructor qualification (discovery.uk.com/gym-instructor-courses ) entitles the holder to work as a gym instructor anywhere in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and many places in Asia. It opens up employment opportunities for the individuals right out of school, without the need for internships, further training or further career development.
A spokesperson for Discovery Learning explained, "We are doing this to create links with educational institutions that could lead to repeat business, and provide job opportunities for young people. Discovery's gym instructor courses can be delivered entirely online, meaning the pupils put forward by their schools and colleges would have the option to do the course from their homes or as part of their school activities. For this reason, the scholarship is open to pupils anywhere in England and Wales. Pupils can start the course whenever they are ready and have eighteen months in which to complete it, meaning there is little pressure put on students in comparison to traditional exams."
