LaPietra, DO, FACEP, Medical Director of Emergency Department Pain Management at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Patterson, NJ.(GROUND ZERO in the Opioid crisis.) She is the founder & creator of the Alternatives to Opiates (ALTO SM) program and the newly formed Pain Management Section of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Mark Rosenberg, DO, MBA, FACEP, FAAHPM, (also from St. Joseph's) the architect of the ALTO program, will join her on the Panel to explain their program. Together, the two clinicians have created and are the first in the US to launch the ALTO program--a unique approach to pain management without opioids They have presented across the country on the impact of their program to turn the tide against opioid addiction and overdose.

Dr. LaPietra is a faculty member of the Emergency Medicine Residency at St. Joseph's. She has been working closely with the Center for Disease Control, American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physician, American College of Emergency Physician as well as legislators in Washington D.C. to assist in finding a solution to the prescription opioid crisis while promoting quality pain management. Her passion is the research & development of opiate alternatives for the management of acute & chronic pain. She received her DO from University of Medicine & Dentistry, New Jersey.

She has been awarded the 2016 Emergency Care Innovation of the Year Award from George Washington University Center for Healthcare Innovation and Policy Research as well as the 2016 American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians Practice Innovation Award. Her work has been highlighted nationally in The Guardian, The D.O., MD Magazine, The Annals of Emergency Medicine, NPR, NBC Nightly News, The New York Times, Fox News, and CNN.

She attended Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine before commencing her residency in Emergency Medicine followed by an Emergency Medicine Pain Management Fellowship at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
