Tustin, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/13/2014 -- Dr. Milos Boskovic, of Transformation Dental Partners in Tustin, recently attended a meeting of The Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontists, of which he is an active member, held at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, CA. There is a significant difference between a general dentist and a prosthodontist. After completing four years of dental school, prosthodontists receive three additional years of specialized training in an American Dental Association accredited, university-based, graduate-education program. Dr. Boskovic is one of only about 1,300 Prosthodontic Specialists in the United States.

This year’s theme for the meeting was Technology Advantages. Various dental product manufacturers and dealers introduced new technology for various dental procedures. The overall emphasis of the meeting was utilization of digital dentistry.

As Dr. Boskovic reviewed the wares of the vendors, he noticed something. “It seemed as if everything was geared toward integration of dental technology into dentistry, doing things faster and more efficiently for the dentist and to decrease the amount of time needed to spend on each patient.” “But,” he adds, “Have we really grasped the implications of integrating dental technology into our practices?”

Dr. Boskovic feels that, “My goal is to spend as much time with each patient as they need. I don’t ever want our patients to feel as if we are in a hurry.” Dr. Boskovic adds, “My job is to take the time necessary to perform the best dentistry for each patient, not how to use technology simply to make things go faster.”

There were also a number of cosmetic dentistry products that were marketed as digital replacements for the artistic eye of the dentist. According to Dr. Boskovic, “Beauty and an attractive smile are both, as they say, in the eye of the beholder. I prefer to take the time to really look at a patient and ‘see’ all of the nuances of his or her smile. Cosmetic dentistry is a craft, not a computerized manufacturing process.”

Dr. Boskovic goes on to say that he is certainly not opposed to new technology.
