The Council for Compulsive Gambling New Jersey

Dr. Mayumi Okuda-Benavides, M.D., Will Give Plenary Session at CCGNJ's 34th Annual Statewide Conference on Compulsive Gambling

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/02/2016 -- As the American population increasingly diversifies, so do the patients visiting the offices of professionals who treat gambling addiction. It is the view of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) that gambling problem help is incomplete without an understanding of how the patient's cultural background factors into their gambling disorder. Professionals who wish to learn more about multicultural perspectives on gambling are encouraged to attend the CCGNJ's 34th Annual Statewide Conference on Compulsive Gambling.

The Conference, which will take place on Friday, September 16th, 2016, is a daylong series of workshops and presentations exploring different facets of cultural diversity and how professionals should take multiculturalism into consideration when treating patients addicted to casino gambling in Atlantic City or other types of gambling. Board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Mayumi Okuda-Benavides, M.D., will give a plenary session entitled "Understanding the Prevalence & Risk Factors of Gambling Disorder in Minorities." A practitioner at the Neurological Institute of New York, Dr. Okuda-Benavides is a well-respected professional in her field, and will unpack the complex relationships between cultural backgrounds and gambling disorders for her audience.

The CCGNJ encourages any and all mental health professionals in New Jersey to attend this conference to understand the context for their patients' casino gambling addictions in AC or other forms of gambling addiction. The Conference will take place at the East Windsor, NJ Holiday Inn. For reservations, attendees can call 609-448-7000.
