Dramatic Conversion of 700 Year-Old Cave Shows the Importance of Good Sandstone

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/24/2016 -- Recent attention has been drawn to the impressive properties of sandstone, following reports that a Worcestershire man has recently completed a project of converting a natural cave made from the material, into a luxury home. The site is based in Worcestershire and located deep in cliffs formed from Triassic sandstone: the stone itself estimated to be about 250-million years old. That the man in question, Angelo Mastropietro, has managed to handcraft the material into a structure of continued durability, highlights the effective practical properties of the rock, as well as strong visual appeal. The result includes a small living area, additional room-space and a terrace.

It is in turn expected that sandstone features will play an even more prominent role in landscaping installations in the coming year, as people pay more attention to what it is a capable of. London Stone are prime providers of a range of stone types, including sandstone.

They were considerably impressed by the project and a spokesperson had this to say:

"The achievement in creating a beautiful home from a sandstone cave is expected to create considerable interest around the rock itself. Sandstone is indeed a good material to try to your advantage and fitting your circumstances; for example it can make solid steps and strong paving – if it is quality, of course. Cutting and sculpting it to size is possible. That is why we are proud to offer a number of sandstone options here at London Stone, as well as a number of other types."
