Eberly & Associates Celebrates Every Permit

Atlanta, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/18/2015 -- Permitting has always been an essential part of every project that Eberly & Associates works on, but now permitting is part of the critical time line. It is now taking an average of 13 weeks to receive a permit for projects located within metro-Atlanta, when in the past it was a 6-8 week process. Our project managers reviewed the last 32 land disturbance permits pulled by Eberly & Associates. These permits encompassed 17 different jurisdictions within the metropolitan area including 12 permits in the City of Atlanta, where the average permitting time was 15 weeks. Because permitting is so critical to the economic success of a project, we celebrate each permit!

There are many contributing factors to the expanded permitting time. Many municipalities, counties and regions have implemented new green infrastructure requirements, such as more stringent stormwater management, erosion control and tree protection guidelines. These same municipalities are still staffed at 2010 levels and are not able to accommodate the new robust development cycle.

Our teams are working with the reviewers to determine the best design solutions to address those new requirements. We are meeting with reviewers and previewing our approach to get conceptual agreement on the solution prior to submittal. Working directly with staff members, we are positively impacting permit turn around times.

The expanded guidelines require more reviews within a permitting department before construction can start. "We are working with our clients to make sure they understand the new expanded time frame required for the initial permitting process, then once we receive a permit we celebrate together," states Scott Gardner, PE, Principal of Eberly & Associates.
