Elementary, My Dear Watson: One Pooch Gets a Special Dog Portrait

Anthropomorphic Dog Portraiture Becoming Popular With Dog Owners

London, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/14/2016 -- More and more dog owners are celebrating man's best friend with oil painting portraits with a quirky new twist: adding an anthropomorphic human element by adding uniforms or even famous characters from literature. One art studio which specialises in this form of portraiture is London artist collective Dog Artists, who were recently commissioned to create a special portrait.

"Watson was a special case—the lady who commissioned his oil painting told us that he had been named after Dr Watson from the Sherlock Holmes stories, and she wanted him to be painted after his name sake," said Art Director, Anouska Bertram of Dog Artists. "By painting a dog in human uniform or dress, we can reveal the characteristics of the dog through subtle human touch—and with Watson, we were really able to bring out his sleuth-like qualities."

Dog Artists is a collective of eight artists who create dog portraiture from photographs, adding a human dimension using attire that suits the dog's personality and character—the company delivers worldwide and can take on special commissions.
