Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/25/2016 -- In celebration of Earth Day this spring, the Elmwood Park Zoo will host their annual Party for the Planet event, which is hosted by PECO, on Saturday, April 23 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The family-friendly party features live entertainment and an Earth Expo in addition to the zoo's animal exhibits. Participating vendors can showcase their eco-friendly products and services that align with Elmwood Park Zoo's conservation mission. Some of the vendors that will be in attendance include Kind, Red Earth Farm, Seafood Watch, We Bee Brothers, Abiyah Naturals, Whole Foods, and more.
In addition to viewing the giraffe exhibit near Philadelphia, guests can educate themselves on green solutions to everyday problems as well as enjoy live entertainment from Lolly and YoYo. This family-oriented event also features a theater production by the Norristown Educational Theater called "Just a Dream: The Green Play." The show times of the play will take place as follows:
- Thursday, April 21 at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM
- Friday, April 22 at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM
- Saturday, April 23 at 1 PM
The performances are free with admission but will require a reservation, which can be done online on the park's website. Elmwood Park Zoo's own horticulturalist will perform kid-friendly demonstrations on gardening and sustaining a green life.
The event is the Association of Zoo's and Aquarium's signature largest combined Earth Day celebration held in North America. During the celebration, guests can visit their favorite animals, survey the giraffe and jaguar exhibit construction, and admire the improvements made around the zoo. Elmwood Park Zoo's giraffe exhibit and other animal displays are open near Philadelphia year round as part of their initiative to conserve wildlife.
