Engaging Workshops Enrich the CCGNJ's 35th Annual Statewide Conference

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/24/2017 -- This September, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) held its 35th Annual Statewide Conference. The event provided professionals working in fields related to gambling with the opportunity to share their experiences, their latest research, and innovations in treatment. The CCGNJ offers support and treatment resources to those struggling with disordered illegal sports betting in Atlantic City, as well as other forms of gambling in New Jersey.

In keeping with the spirit of this year's theme, "The New Frontier in Gambling Treatment," the CCGNJ invited a selection of speakers to present workshops. Besides Dr. Marc Potenza, the keynote speaker, and Dr. Alyssa N. Wilson, the plenary speaker, the CCGNJ invited four additional luminaries in their respective fields to lead workshops throughout the conference.

Jessica Alomar and Jeffrey Beck spoke of the importance of cultural competency in therapy and emphasizing patients' autonomy, respectively. Dr. Anthony De Marco led a session centered on the subconscious obstacles that disordered gamblers face on the road to recovery. Finally, Dr. Sachin Karnik likewise focused on methods in psychotherapy, such as meditation, that can also help disordered gamblers cope with impulsive urges.

Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ, said, "We hold this conference to further professionals' collective understanding of these disorders, and to inspire them to continue working for the greater good." She added, "The CCGNJ thanks all those who made the conference this year such a success, and we look forward to next year's."

The CCGNJ endeavors to offer support, treatment, and hope to anyone struggling with disordered gambling, whether it takes the form of illegal sports betting in AC, casino games, online gambling, or other forms of betting.
