Fatal Injuries in the Workplace Increase: The Accident Team Comments

Doncaster, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/23/2015 -- According to recent statistics released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), between April 2014 and March 2015, 142 people were fatally injured at work. This is an increase when compared to the all time low last year of 136 fatalities.

The statistics suggest that unsafe working environments are still an issue – and need to be addressed. An employer has a legal obligation to fulfil all health and safety requirements and ensure that the security of employees is maintained. These obligations include providing the correct training, carrying out risk assessments and providing the correct tools and safety equipment to minimise the risk of injury.

Common workplace hazards include poorly maintained surfaces, faulty or defective equipment, makeshift tools and improperly guarded machinery. The figures are primarily gathered via RIDDOR (The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations). They include self-employed people, but do not include deaths from fatal diseases, such as asbestos or occupation related cancers.

About The Accident Team
The Accident Team is a group of personal injury lawyers, who are highly experienced in dealing with fatal injuries in the workplace. They are also frequent commentators on industry news and were quick to reflect upon the HSE figures.

A spokesperson, said: "Although there has only been a small increase, any increase at all is disappointing – these figures represent the loss of real lives, real people with families. Workplace regulations are there for a reason and that is simply to preserve safety.

The law is particularly unfair regarding fatal accident claims, they can be complex and need to be handled by experienced lawyers.

Of course, no amount of compensation can ease the pain of losing someone, but getting to the truth of what happened can offer some comfort and making a claim can help maintain some level of financial stability if the deceased had dependents."
