Feature Film Revives the Spirit of James Dean Nearly 60 Years After His Death - Award-Winning Short Film Seeks Crowdfunding for Feature Film Friendly Ghosts

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/30/2014 -- September 30 marks the 59th anniversary of James Dean’s death in a tragic car crash, and the feature film Friendly Ghosts seeks to revive the spirit of Dean by transporting him into the present age.

Friendly Ghosts began as a short film in 2012, titled Two Friendly Ghosts. Directed by Parker Ellerman, the short received invitations to 50 film festivals and acclaim from critics and fans, resulting in expansion into a feature film screenplay.

The story is a roadmovie with a supernatural twist set in the present time. The main character, Jimmy Luck, revives Dean’s spirit through an adventurous encounter sparked by the death of Luck’s father who collected a chest full of James Dean memorabilia. The film captures the cultural significance of Dean and the ways in which it’s reflected in our own personal relationships.

“The archetype of James Dean is just as relevant today as it once was,” explains director Parker Ellerman. “Many of our current icons, like Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and the late Kurt Cobain share the same quintessential nonchalance and rebellious style indicative of this magnetic legend.”

The creators of Friendly Ghost are raising funds through a Kickstarter campaign, which launched in mid September and runs through October 16 with a goal to raise $400,000. For more information on the feature film and details about how to get involved, visit the Kickstarter site.

Kickstarter rewards for donating range from $5 to $10,000. $5 results in inclusion in the exclusive backer community, with behind-the-scenes updates throughout production. The highest $10,000 reward results in a role in the movie.
