According to the survey, 60% of the Affluent respondents believed that it is a good idea for new couples to outline their short-term and long-term financial goals and values before tying the knot. One-third of respondents recommended premarital counseling to discuss attitudes and behaviors toward money. Other statistics show that 32% suggested couples don’t have a child until they are financially secure, 22% advise couples to check each other’s credit scores before marriage and 26% encourage newlyweds to purchase a home together as soon as they had the finances to do so.

According to the survey, women aren’t as likely to live together first before getting married as men are. Women are also less likely to advise couples to delay having children prior to being financially secure.
