San Diego, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/22/2014 -- The Princess and Pirate Party (http://www.princesspirateparty.org), an event benefiting the San Diego chapter of Make A Wish Foundation that made its yearly debut this past Sunday August 17, 2014, was a great success amongst attendees.
Birthed and underwritten by two organizers, the event was hosted at the San Diego Harbor. Tickets were $20 each, and the expected crowd of 300 children rose closer to 400 pint-size princesses and pirates. The Princess & Pirate Party (PPP) is a community celebration and fundraising event where families come together to support Make A Wish’s mission of granting children diagnosed with serious illnesses their wishes, giving them a chance to smile and providing them with lasting memories. Volunteer event coordinator, Lisa Alexander, ensured that every Wish Kid and their family members attended the party free of charge. Volunteers from Hands-On San Diego and Spunky Monkey Kids Parties shaped recycled cardboard into creative kiddie castles to transform the waterfront park into an enchanted land of make believe.
Some of the highlights were a special dance party with Cinderella, Rapunzel, Captain Hook, and other storybook characters. The crowd received an exciting pirate guided tour courtesy of the Star of India Tall Ship, enjoyed some professional storytelling by Harlynne Geisler, and listened to sensational instrumental and vocal performances by The Recreational Music Center students. Other features of the event included souvenir photos, inflatables from Air Bounce San Diego, an interactive dress-up bar hosted by Fairytale Fashionista, and a fairytale-themed crafts station amongst other stops partygoers could partake in. Attendees doned their best princess and pirate attire for the evening, and indulged in a Grab and Go buffet and dessert station.
Despite a late start to the enchantment caused by a foot injury suffered by one of the organizers, and food running out due to unexpected high attendance, park officials were extremely pleased with the outcome and turnout in support of the charitable foundation. The event is scheduled to be held yearly at the same location, two weeks before the start of the new school year in August.
