Football Coach Encourages Men to "Get off the Sidelines and Into the Game"

Enumclaw, WA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/13/2017 -- A Texas high-school varsity football and basketball coach of thirty years, Steve Morris, encourages men to get off the sidelines and live actively for Christ. As a frequent speaker at men's retreats, the now retired Coach Morris became concerned about the growing number of men who have turned away from the faith of their youth, and only attend church out of a sense of duty, on special occasions, or when their wives or girlfriends "guilt" them.

In an updated and expanded version of his book, Down, Set, Hike: It's Not Just a Game Played on Sundays (Redemption Press, March 2017), the motivational speaker hopes to spur men to leave their comfortable positions on the sidelines and "get back in the game." Using football as an analogy, he reminds men of their purpose in life. He hopes to reach men who passively occupy a pew with the message that "Jesus Christ has called you to a higher purpose, and He has a plan for your future. You must begin now with your decision to follow Him."

The Fort Worth, Texas resident, a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in education, presents biblical truth with zeal saying, "Real men get involved in things in life that matter most—they are fully committed involvement toward God's purposes." While he acknowledges that "Each man's approach to getting in the game will be different," the book encourages workouts "with a spiritual twist," and provides a viable action plan that demands each man's unique contribution to the outcome. Morris encourages men to reach out to other men who need to hear Jesus Christ loves them and wants them on His team.
