Former Police Chief Norm Stamper, Author of Protect & Serve - How to Fix America's Police Joins "PI's Declassified

Phoenix, AZ -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/28/2016 -- Voice America Talk Radio Network, Internet broadcasting pioneer, producing and syndicating online audio and video, today announced that Seattle's top cop from 1994-2000, Norm Stamper, will join Francie Koehler, host of PI's Declassified! radio program on the VoiceAmerica Variety Channel (http://www.voiceamericavariety.com) Thursday, September 29, 2016, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.

Norm Stamper will discuss policing. He knows it from the streets as a beat cop, through the supervisory ranks to police chief. He calls for fundamental changes in the government's role as well as including citizen participation in police operations – joint community-police crisis management. Millions of Americans experience police officers as overly aggressive, racist, brutal, and trigger happy. At the same time, officers feel unfairly criticized, misunderstood and under siege. Norm Stamper shows how the system can be changed for the better. Definitely, a show not to miss!

Policing is in crisis. The technology of smartphones brings lives snuffed out with police bullets into our living rooms. Typically, the life that is lost is that of a minority. Norm Stamper has a revolutionary new model for American Law Enforcement to share from his unique viewpoint.

Policing is a daunting and often thankless responsibility. Law enforcement policies and tactics have landed directly under the nation's microscope. Many wonder what happened? Most individuals who sign on as sworn officers do so because they want to make a difference. What happens then? Is it their training or is something else afoot? Norm Stamper believes he has an answer.

A multiple award recipient, a 34-year veteran law enforcement officer, and retired police chief, Norm Stamper worked his way through the ranks for 34 years and ultimately became Seattle's top cop after 28 years in San Diego including a stint as Executive Director of Mayor Pete Wilson's Crime Control Commission. As Seattle's Police Chief, Norm led a process of major organizational restructuring, creating new bureaus of Professional Responsibility, Community Policing, and Family and Youth Protection and formed one of the country's best responses to domestic violence. He participated as a member of the National Advisory Council on Violence Against Women Act; Police Executive Research Forum; Intl Assoc of Chiefs of Police, and the Major Cities Chiefs. Norm earned a BA and a Masters in criminal justice administration, a Ph.D. in leadership and human behavior, and is a graduate of the FBI's National Executive Institute. Norm is the author of Breaking Rank: A Top Cop's Exposé of the Dark Side of American Policing, and To Protect and Serve: How to Fix America's Police.
