Freedom Ranger Hatchery Releases Tips on Protecting Chicken Flocks from MG and MS

Lancaster, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/18/2019 -- Freedom Ranger Hatchery, Inc., a high-quality chicken seller and certified poultry hatchery in Lancaster County, Pa., recently released information on protecting chickens from two common avian bacterial infections.

Family-owned and operated, Freedom Ranger Hatchery believes in allowing chickens to do what comes naturally to ensure the highest quality bird. Free range, organic pasture environments—while good for chickens—can sometimes lead to common infections that could result in severe economic losses.

In a recent blog post, Freedom Ranger Hatchery touched on how to protect birds from two common respiratory diseases—mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and mycoplasma synoviae (MS). While birds may sometimes not show signs of infection, the post highlights a few warning signs as well as how the diseases are transmitted. There are also five recommendations on how to prevent the diseases by minimizing contact with other flocks, starting with disease-free birds, keeping rodents and wild birds away, boosting immunity with the right diet, and quarantining new birds. In addition, Freedom Ranger Hatchery also has recommendations for treatment of both diseases to ensure the healthiness of flocks.

"MG and MS are not usually life-threatening to your flock," says Arthur Detweiler, Manager at Freedom Ranger Hatchery. "But these infectious diseases can limit the productivity of your chickens. If you're looking for a source of healthy broilers or layers, Freedom Ranger Hatchery is your resource."
