Seattle, WA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/13/2014 -- Dirk Knemeyer of Granville, Ohio, has developed the first board game that incorporates all of the athleticism, strategy and luck of soccer. It’s called Fútbol Strategy and, with the World Cup starting soon, is a must for any true soccer fan.
Each player has a card with individual codes that rate his ability to pass, receive, score, take long shots, tackle, and defend.
“Players move around the field as if it were a real game: passing, carrying, crossing, shooting, defending, and clearing,” explained Knemeyer. “Everything that you expect from a game of football played out on a field is happening right here with Fútbol Strategy.
“There are goals, corner kicks, goal kicks, free kicks, yellow and red cards, penalty kicks. The important moments play out just like in a real game.”
Fútbol Strategy includes a full set of cards for four nations: Brazil, Spain, Germany, and the United States. Those playing the game pick six "stars” – five outfielders plus a goalkeeper – for their team. These “stars” are actual players presently playing for their respective teams.
A game takes 30-60 minutes to play and there are plenty of important decisions to be made by the coach. The results of any action – whether it’s a shot, tackle or a pass – are based on the codes for the offensive player and the defender.
In addition, the “chips of fate” represent luck and bad bounces, randomizing scoring results and the battle for loose balls.

“Fútbol Strategy is an easy game to learn but the strategy is as complex as a real football game,” said Knemeyer. “You can build tactics around attacking, defense, or take a balanced approach. You can play narrow or wide. All of this happens in space, with footballers moving around the field. It feels like real football.”
