Glucosamine Can Potentially Reduce Mortality Rate

Orlando, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/01/2015 -- Due to the high prevalence of a wide variety of medical conditions nowadays, mortality rates continue to increase. The existence of diseases is considered to be the most common cause of death in many areas around the world. The good news is that there is a natural ingredient that can potentially promote longevity.

Glucosamine can potentially reduce the mortality rate. Since the 1990s, this natural alternative has been known to help improve joint health. It is widely available now in the form of supplements. Many people from around the world who are suffering from arthritis are relying on the therapeutic benefits of glucosamine. Jason Theodosakis, M.D., evaluates certain scientific findings, and stresses the importance of taking glucosamine in the right dosage to obtain maximum benefits.

"There have been quite a number of scientific studies conducted to explore the benefits of taking the natural alternative. Those who have been taking glucosamine for a long time are believed to be more likely to gain benefits, such as improvement in the joint cartilage health and decrease in mortality rate," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

A research study evaluated 77,700 adults between the ages of 50 and 76 who were living in Washington, in the United States. The researchers determined around 20 factors that were associated with mortality, such as sex, race, age, exercise and smoking. They also tabulated the use of a variety of vitamins, minerals and supplements within the previous ten years. They followed the subjects for five years on average.

It was found that the participants who took glucosamine for a minimum of four times every week for three years or more experienced a reduction of 17 percent in mortality rate. Those who took the natural alternative for shorter periods or in smaller amounts experienced a mortality rate reduction of 8 percent.

What makes the study even more interesting is that the mortality reductions were more remarkable than they appear. Individuals with osteoarthritis typically have a significantly higher mortality rate than those who belong to the general population. This is potentially due to immobility from pain, disrupted sleep, and increased inflammation.

According to researchers, it would be great to get individuals with osteoarthritis back to the average baseline mortality rate. They further theorized that glucosamine was able to work as an anti-inflammatory in the same ways as aspirin, only that it didn't cause side effects such as kidney disease, stroke risk or excessive bleeding. More clinical trials are underway, but an increasing number of people are using glucosamine supplements to increase their protection against certain diseases (
