Go Backpacking in Ouray

Backpacking is fun, low-cost means of travel that is also a great way to discover new sights and meet people. It’s refreshingly different from a conventional trip while also allowing the opportunity to become more acquainted with the area.

Ouray, CO -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/17/2019 -- For those eager to do some Ouray backpacking, Bear Creek National Recreation Trail is a good place to start. It winds beyond formerly active mines and camps will guide backpackers through profusely elegant fields of wildflowers. Backpackers will eventually come upon a rock shelf with a sheer drop-off just a couple of feet away.

Make some space to carry camping gear before visiting Engineer Pass, found about seven miles up the trail. This region is rife with sights to explore and provides numerous opportunities to take plenty of memorable photos during the backpacking trip.

To get to Bear Creek National Recreation Trail from Ouray, drive a little over two miles south on U.S. 550 to where the road passes through a small tunnel. The trailhead is found on the western side of the road just beyond the tunnel and is hard to miss.
