Edward Bass is a Golden Globe nominee and 2007 Washington DC Circle of Excellence winner. He is also a producer, director, writer, actor and satirical journalist. He has produced alongside such producing partners as Sir Anthony Hopkins, Bobby, Guillermo del Toro (While She Was Out), Kevin Spacey (Mini’s First Time), Peter Berg (The Hill That Chris Climbed: The Gridiron Story), Stanley Kramer (Something a Little Less Serious, a documentary on It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World) as well as James Franco and his NYU students (Black Dog Red Dog). His films have been accepted into most of the world’s major Film Festivals (Bobby opened the L.A. Film Festival and won the Biografilm award at Venice, Slingshot– in competition at Tribecca, and Come Early Morning — nominated for the Grand Jury Prize, Sundance). Having mentored over a dozen first time directors, he will make his feature film directorial debut with Belle. Bass’ other activities include his philanthropic work – he teaches nonprofit film classes in his TriBeCa loft and is the founder of “Born Warriors”, an organization initiated to get handicapable children involved in film. ReelAid, the nonprofit alongside which he won the Circle of Excellence Award, ties important causes together with celebrities to create documentary films that aid the nonprofits in their work.

Under the banner of Edward Bass Films he is also developing with Prince Cyrus Pahlavi a project about Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, the twin sister of the country’s last Shah, who was noteworthy for her support of women’s rights and fearless nature (Shadow of the Shah).

As a journalist for Splash Magazine, he covered such topics as his introducing Ryan White (who brought media attention to the unfair stigma about AIDS) to Nancy and Ronald Reagan spearheading GOP support for AIDS research, the death of Amy Winehouse, Edward Snowdon and some of his memoirs. He also is presiding President of the American Foundation for the Performing Arts, which he organized with Jack Valenti originally to present Stanley Kramer with its lifetime achievement award. While less important than getting the Reagans to support AIDS research, at Bold Films he initiated Bold Films’ annual Cannes sponsorship of AMFAR resulting in an increase of revenue in the millions to that organization.

Bass also served as manager to a range of talents, from ballerinas to boxers. One boxer included Julio Caesar Chavez, whom under Bass’ wings was made the highest priced super middleweight boxer in the history of the sport.Bass also produced such musicals and events as Bob Hope Birthday Day, “Great Moments on Stage,” with the Nicholas Brothers where the musical centered around costumes designed by Erte, and “Stardust,” with Toni Tenille and Tony Award winner Hinton Battle. He also produced John Gary’s cancer fund Fundraiser with Liza Minelli, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, and Henry Mancini. Bass arranged for President Gerald Ford and his wife Betty to kick off his annual Oscar viewing event, and his Night at Bud Friedman’s Improv had a range of talent from Arnold Scwartzennneger, and Sam Kinnison to Syd Cesar and Buddy Hackett.
