The country's nickel mineral reserves are principally spread across three large areas in the country: the Central Euboea area, the Neo Kokkino area in the county of Viotia, and the Kastoria area in Northern Greece.

Larco is the leading producer of nickel in the country. Greece produced approximately XX million tons of nickel in 2011, while its consumption also stood at XX million tons. 'In situ' laterites reserves are rare in Greece, although the Kastoria mine contains this type of nickel. The transported or sedimentary type of laterites is more commonly found in Greece and, although they have a correspondingly lower nickel content, the nickel in this type of mineral reserve is easy to extract.
