Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/04/2014 -- Hair care products are considered part of the daily hygiene routine and as a consequence, sales have not suffered as much as other categories in the Spanish beauty and personal care market. Value sales of hair care products declined slightly in 2013. The conservative attitude developed by Spanish consumers since the beginning of the economic crisis, dragged the performance of the category in 2013.
L'Oreal led hair care in 2013 with a 27% value share, gaining ground on the previous year. Although the company continues to face strong competition from private label, its strong R&D strategy and the success of the launches onto the market benefited the performance of the company in 2013. Particularly successful was the launch onto the market of the new Garnier colourant range, Olia. Garnier also increased the portfolio of products which claim to repair damaged hair under the range Garnier Fructis Adios Danos. The company is active in the Spanish market with the brands Garnier, Elive and Kerastase through beauty salon sales.

Hair care value sales are set to decline by 3% at constant 2013 prices over the forecast period. The fact that Spanish consumers will not begin to feel the economic recovery until mid-forecast period will drag the performance of the category. Although Spanish GDP is expected to record positive growth rates from 2014 on, the growth rates will be weak to be able to create employment.
