Hochman & Goldin Discuss Uninsured Motorist Bill

Miami, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/08/2019 -- When law enforcement officers ask a driver to provide their license, vehicle registration, and insurance, it is typically due to a traffic infraction. With advancements in technology, officers are able to quickly verify license and registration status through an up-to-date Florida database. The case is not the same for insurance verification.

A bill that will undergo review during the spring legislative session could result in massive changes to insurance. Florida would devise a system by July of 2022 where insurance companies can upload reports each week with the most recent policyholder status. Officers would also be required to verify a driver's insurance status if they become involved in a traffic stop or a vehicle crash. Despite the proposed changes, drivers would still be required to carry proof of insurance.

Being able to verify insurance could factor heavily in reducing Florida's uninsured motorist rate which is currently a little more than 25 percent.
