Global Huntite Market: Overview

Huntite is a crushed, dried, and finely grounded white powder which is a type of carbonate mineral. It has solidified trigonal framework with molecular formula Mg3Ca (CO3)4 and has a molecular weight of 353.03 gm. It is made up of the combination of different magnesium and calcium carbonates which includes hydromagnesite, magnesite, and dolomite. It has been named in the honor of Walter Frederick Hunt, a renowned mineralogist. Huntite, over a temperature range of about 450–800°C, thermally decomposes and leaves a residue of calcium and magnesium oxides and also releases carbon dioxide. They are generally found in caves which are suited for the low-temperature formation of huntite. Huntite has features such as limited smoke production, retardancy property, recyclability, and easy combustibility. The huntite mineral has a broad range of its applications which includes metallurgy and abrasives, coating and polymer, wooden flooring, heating elements, light bulb, and glasses. It is also used in the plastic cable industry as a flame retarder.
